Download Sicko, the new movie by Michael Moore

Moore says Slacker Uprising will be
"the first major feature-length film by a noted director to debut for free via the Internet. No theatrical release, no DVD release (at first), no TV airing, and not a streaming video (like on YouTube) -- just a completely free, download-it-and-you-own-it first-run movie."
The movie, which will end up costing Moore about $1 million out of pocket, follows him on a 62-city tour in 2004 trying to convince young people to vote. It's like a concert movie without the music. Why does anyone actually want to see it? His last two efforts, Sicko and Fahrenheit 9/11 are two of the three highest grossing documentaries in history, having made $24 million and $119 million, respectively. Sure, Moore has become one of the most hated men in America, at least among conservative Republicans, but if you're a young slacker, maybe this bud's for you.

MICHAEL MOORE'S NEW FILM TO BE OFFERED FREE ON INTERNET "AS A GIFT TO FANS"

For Immediate Release

FIRST EVER MAJOR FEATURE-LENGTH FILM TO BE RELEASED FOR FREE ON INTERNET

"SLACKER UPRISING" LOOKS AT YOUTH REVOLT IN 2004 ELECTION AS A SIGN OF WHAT WAS AHEAD IN 2008

FILM WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR THREE WEEKS AS A FREE DOWNLOAD BEGINNING SEPTEMBER 23

TRAVERSE CITY, MI (Sept. 4, 2008) -- After 20 years of making groundbreaking films and setting box office records -- from "Roger & Me" to "Bowling for Columbine" to "Sicko" -- Oscar-winning filmmaker Michael Moore has decided to thank his many fans by giving them a download of his newest film, "Slacker Uprising," for free.

This will be the first major feature-length film by a noted director to debut for free via the Internet. No theatrical release, no DVD release (at first), no TV airing, and not a streaming video (like on YouTube) -- just a completely free, download-it-and-you-own-it first-run movie.

"Slacker Uprising" traces Michael Moore’s 62-city tour of the swing states during the 2004 Presidential election and records the thrilling -- and frightening -- response he received across the country.

The 97-minute film will be available for a pristine, high-resolution, free download to any North American resident beginning on September 23. Anyone who wishes to sign up for the free download in advance may do so as of today by going to the website SlackerUprising.com and ordering it for free.

Moore, who has made three of the five top-grossing documentaries of all time (including the #1 grossing doc, "Fahrenheit 9/11"), said he is doing this giveaway for personal reasons. "I realized that in a few months it will be the 20th anniversary of my first film, 'Roger & Me'," he said. "I've been very blessed and fortunate to have so many people come to my movies over these two decades, I decided the way to say thanks was to make one that the fans can have for free, as a show of my profound appreciation of their support."

The free download is being organized and distributed by Robert Greenwald's Brave New Films.

Neither Moore nor Brave New Films will make any money from the film, which had a budget of over $2 million. The film was funded by Harvey and Bob Weinstein, along with funding from Moore himself. "This is being done entirely as a gift to my fans," said Moore. "The only return any of us are hoping for is the largest turnout of young voters ever at the polls in November. I think 'Slacker Uprising' will inspire million to get off the couch and give voting a chance."

Moore says he hopes local groups, individuals, or candidates themselves will take the movie and show it in community centers, local theaters, union halls, churches -- "or wherever," says Moore. "I want people to be creative and show this everywhere, from their living rooms to their college campuses to their local cinemas. They have my blanket permission to do so. And if a candidate or a group wants to use it as a fundraiser, go right ahead!"

Moore and Greenwald plan to premiere the film the night before the free download on September 22 at "a theater full of slackers" in New York.

They are also planning a "Night of a Thousand House Parties" on Sunday, October 4, where the public will hold neighborhood screenings of "Slacker Uprising" and Moore will then speak live at the end of the film via satellite.

The free download will be available for three weeks and on September 23, a low-cost DVD of "Slacker Uprising" with bonus features will be available for purchase on the SlackerUprising.com website for individuals whom wish to have a packaged copy of the film. On October 7, the packaged dvd will be available at retail stores, through Amazon and on Netflix. "Again," says Greenwald, "the price is being kept low as none of us want to see any profit from this."

Moore's goal four years ago (when "Slacker Uprising" was filmed), was to convince millions of non-voting "slackers" -- mostly between the ages of 18-29 -- to give voting a try. Starting out in Elk Rapids, Michigan, in front of an audience of 400, the tour caught on like wildfire with up to 16,000 slackers each night coming to see Moore and his traveling band of speakers, comedians, and musicians.

To encourage the slackers to show up, they were offered a clean change of underwear, free Ramen noodles, and a promise that no event would start before noon and no politician would be allowed to speak. These enticements filled basketball arenas and football stadiums every night on the "Slacker Uprising Tour."

Part concert tour, part stand-up comedy performance and part rock concert, "Slacker Uprising" is an uplifting and patriotic look at the birth of a new political generation in America -- a generation of young people who would signal the eventual era of "Obamania" that would take place just four years later.

Along with Moore's appearance, "Slacker Uprising" features live performances or appearances by Eddie Vedder (of Pearl Jam), Roseanne Barr, Joan Baez, Tom Morello (of Rage Against the Machine), R.E.M., Steve Earle, and Viggo Mortensen.

The tour had its share of controversy. It was banned from a number of campuses like George Mason University in Virginia. Other colleges, like University of Nevada-Reno were offered large donations by local Republicans if they would cancel Moore's appearance. Many were threatened with violence and boycotts if Moore and friends stepped foot on campus. The Republican Party in Michigan asked prosecutors to arrest Moore for offering the clean underwear and quick-cook noodles as a "bribe" to get young people to vote.

In the end, young people set an all-time record for voter turnout -- and they were the only age group that John Kerry won.

"In the interest of fair warning, people who are not fans of mine will not like this movie," Moore states cautiously. "This movie has way too much of me in it, and way too many tens of thousands of people liking what I'm saying. If you're a McCain fan, this film should probably be rated X." (The film is unrated, but has no sex, violence or excessive bad language, other than a few epithets hurled at Moore.)

TOP NEWS just in... 17 June 2007 www.WeAreChange.org
Michael Moore = 911 = INSIDE JOB

Academy Award winner Michael Moore answered questions on 9/11 truth during a sneak peak of his new documentary, SICKO, in New York. Moore brought up his lingering questions on 9/11, which are a clear departure from the 'government negligence' picture he painted in his film Fahrenheit 9/11, released some three years ago. Moore told reporters, "I've had a number of firefighters tell me over the years and since Fahrenheit 9/11 that they heard these explosions -- that they believe there's MUCH more to the story than we've been told. I don't think the official investigations have told us the complete truth-- they haven't even told us half the truth." "I've filmed there before down at the Pentagon-- before 9/11-- there's got to be at least 100 cameras, ringing that building, in the trees, everywhere. They've got that plane coming in with 100 angles. How come with haven't seen the straight-- I'm not talking about stop-action photos, I'm talking about the video. I want to see the video; I want to see 100 videos that exist of this," Moore said. "Why don't they want us to see that plane coming into the building? Because, if you know anything about flying a plane, when you're going 500 miles per hour, if you're off by that much, you're in the river. So, they hit a building that's only 5 stories high...[unclear] that expertly. I believe that there will be answers in that video tape and we should demand that that tape is released." Michael Moore was not vague or bashful in discussing 9/11 truth-- rather, he demanded a "new investigation before we get too far away from this-- to find out the whole truth." .. "And I intend, in my own way, to find some answers," Moore added. "Thank you for doing whatever you're doing."

It is worse! Check the evidence of TV Fakery! And remember, The Revolution won't be televized!

Sicko (sometimes rendered as SiCKO) is the title of a documentary film by Michael Moore, scheduled for release on June 29, 2007.[1] It will investigate health care with a focus on large American pharmaceutical companies and of corruption in the Food and Drug Administration.

Via his blog, Moore requested "Health Care Horror Stories" from the public in an effort to share his view on the health care industry.[2]

When asked about this movie, Michael Moore said, "If people ask, we tell them 'Sicko' is a comedy about 45 million people with no health care in the richest country on Earth." On April 19, 2007, Moore announced on his website that Sicko had been selected for the 2007 Cannes Film Festival where it had its world premiere on May 19, 2007. Moore also announced a June 29, 2007 release date for the U.S. and Canada.

Plot

Michael Moore accompanies a number of rescue workers injured after the World Trade Center attacks of 2001 to the U.S. Guantanamo Bay detainment camp (an American territory) to ask for health care for the 9/11 responders. When unable to receive care there, they move on to Havana, Cuba, so that they can receive medical treatment they would otherwise not be able to afford.[3] Although trip participants signed confidentiality agreements prohibiting them from talking about the trip, some thought the trip a success, with The New York Post quoting John Feal, head of the Fealgood Foundation which raises money for 9/11 first responders, that “From what I hear through the grapevine those people who went [to Cuba with Moore] are utterly happy."[4] In an interview with Time Magazine, Moore states "I’m not trumpeting Castro or his regime. I just want to say to fellow Americans, "C’mon, we’re the United States! If they can [provide care for all] we can do it."[5]

The film includes what Moore hopes is an example of generosity of spirit. When the director found out that the Web site moorewatch.com would have to close because webmaster Jim Kenefick needed money to pay his sick wife's medical bills, he sent an anonymous check for US$12,000.[6]

The film also covers Moore's travels to Canada, France and the United Kingdom, investigating their health care systems and comparing them to those provided in the United States.

Reception

The documentary has received positive reviews: following early viewings at the Cannes Film Festival, Variety described Sicko "an affecting and entertaining dissection of the American health care industry,"[7] concluding it should play well internationally.

British film magazine Empire commented that "Sicko is the film that truly reveals Moore as an auteur."[8] Fox News called Sicko "brilliant and uplifting" with Moore showing a heightened "maturity" in a film that "never talks down or baits the audience." [9]

On May 19, 2007 more than 2,000 people applauded loudly after the film's first Cannes screening at the packed Grand Theatre Lumiere, the main festival auditorium.[10]

Moore was quoted as saying: "I know the storm awaits me back in the United States."

Not all audience members were pleased. Some Canadian critics did not like Michael Moore's glamorizing the Canadian health care system.[11] However, other Canadian commentators like Thomas Walkom of the Toronto Star noted that Moore produced the film for an American audience to critique its dominant health system, one that most Canadians are opposed to replacing their system with. [12]

The North American premiere of 'Sicko' was held in London, Ontario at the Silver City movie theatre at Masonville Place on Friday, June 8, 2007 at 7:00PM (Eastern), with Moore himself in attendance. 'Sicko' features patients from the London, Ontario area.

Treasury Department probe

In a May 2, 2007 letter, the Office of Foreign Assets Control informed Moore that he was the subject of a civil investigation stemming from the filmmaker's March trip to Cuba. In the letter to Moore, a Treasury official noted that the department had no record of Moore obtaining a license that authorized him to "engage in travel-related transactions involving Cuba," alleging that Moore violated the United States embargo against Cuba.[13][14]

A duplicate master copy of the film is being held outside the U.S. in case American authorities attempt to seize the film as part of the criminal investigation against Moore that arose from taking American 9/11 rescue workers to Cuba for medical treatment. While Moore has not officially announced where the other negative is being held, Fox News claims that it is located in France.[9][15]

The following is how the HMO's actually got off the ground and it was never for your own good. We believe that the American public has been mislead. Please follow the following two web links to learn more about what took place between President Nixon, John Erlichman and how Edgar Kaiser played a role in the creation of the HMO.

Mirrored here at: http://businesspractices.kaiserpapers.info/media/nixononkaiser.wav

The transcription has been mirrored on this site because of its relevance to Kaiser Permanente being a for-profit corporation which is contrary to what they have publicly claimed to the rest of the world. We cannot imagine what further proof anyone in this world would need to have presented that Kaiser is a for-profit corporation.

We also believe that listening to this tape will more clearly explain how Kaiser has manipulated our government and the public into believing an untruth. It appears that President Nixon knowing full well that Kaiser was not being honest with their presentation of the HMO thought he was using this to his advantage. Unfortunately it has taken decades for this to become public knowledge which is a shame. President Nixon knew from the time of this conversation that Kaiser was for-profit and he also knew that they are able to profit because -- "All the incentives are toward less medical care, because—the less care they give them, the more money they make." - Mr. Erlichman quoting Edgar Kaiser to President Nixon on February 17, 1971

John D. Ehrlichman: On the—on the health business—

President Nixon: Yeah.

Ehrlichman: —we have now narrowed down the vice president's problems on this thing to one issue and that is whether we should include these health maintenance organizations like Edgar Kaiser's Permanente thing. The vice president just cannot see it. We tried 15 ways from Friday to explain it to him and then help him to understand it. He finally says, “Well, I don't think they'll work, but if the president thinks it's a good idea, I'll support him a hundred percent.”

President Nixon: Well, what's—what's the judgment?

Ehrlichman: Well, everybody else's judgment very strongly is that we go with it.

President Nixon: All right.

Ehrlichman: And, uh, uh, he's the one holdout that we have in the whole office.

President Nixon: Say that I—I—I'd tell him I have doubts about it, but I think that it's, uh, now let me ask you, now you give me your judgment. You know I'm not to keen on any of these damn medical programs.

Ehrlichman: This, uh, let me, let me tell you how I am—

President Nixon: [Unclear.]

Ehrlichman: This—this is a—

President Nixon: I don't [unclear]—

Ehrlichman: —private enterprise one.

President Nixon: Well, that appeals to me.

Ehrlichman: Edgar Kaiser is running his Permanente deal for profit. And the reason that he can—the reason he can do it—I had Edgar Kaiser come in—talk to me about this and I went into it in some depth. All the incentives are toward less medical care, because—

President Nixon: [Unclear.]

Ehrlichman: —the less care they give them, the more money they make.

President Nixon: Fine. [Unclear.]

Ehrlichman: [Unclear] and the incentives run the right way.

President Nixon: Not bad.

Why is Michael Moore silent about 9/11?

Could it have something to do with his 'agent' ?

following comes from wikipedia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ari_Emanuel

Ariel "Ari" Emanuel is a prominent talent agent and founder of the Endeavor Agency in Beverly Hills, California. He represents Larry David, Michael Moore, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Mark Wahlberg, among others.

Raised in suburban Wilmette, Illinois, outside Chicago, Emanuel is the brother of U.S. Congressman Rahm Emanuel, and NIH bioethicist Ezekiel J. Emanuel; his father, the Jerusalem-born Dr. Benjamin M. Emanuel is a pediatrician, who was active in the pre-independence Israeli underground on behalf of the Irgun, a Zionist paramilitary organization. His mother, Martha Emanuel (née Smulevitz), was a civil rights activist, and the one-time owner of a Chicago-area rock and roll club. He is a graduate of New Trier West High School and of Macalester College in St Paul, Minnesota.

Michael Moore says he is being harassed for filming in Cuba

NEW YORK.— Director Michael Moore says he has been subject to a campaign of "harassment" and "discrimination" because the George W. Bush government has demanded that he explain his alleged violation of the blockade on Cuba after he filmed a documentary on the island.

"This is a form of harassment," Moore said, releasing to reporters a letter that his lawyer, David Boies, had sent to the U.S. Treasury Department. The letter says that his filming was for the purpose of journalism and therefore exempt from the restrictions established by the blockade, the AFP reported.

"We are going to fight this case, and we are going to be aggressive and find out who is behind this," Moore said.

The filmmaker traveled to Cuba last September to film part of his film Sicko, which exposes the failures of the U.S. healthcare system, the report says.

Moore’s producer, Harvey Weinstein, also participated in the press conference and backed Moore’s claim. "In my 25 years in the film industry, I have never seen anything like this," he said. The film Sicko premiered in Cannes last month and is to be screened in the United States on June 29.

He should claim his Right under the First Amendment.
True, Cuba is a communist state, and thus run on oligarchic lines, rule
by one party, and from the top. This has its defects, but probably not much
more in real terms than modern USA which is a plutocracy with a virtual
one-party with two heads (Tweedledumbo & Tweedledonkee).
Cuba is socialist insofar as its education and medical system are good
and beneficial. Its doctors are known to give assistance overseas to
struggling Third World countries.
So, Cuba, like all nations has some good aspects, as well as bad. It is
probably better off under Castro than under his predecessor, the gangster
dictator, Battista, with his casinos, prostitution, thuggery, and rackets.
Communism is/was feared (like Terrorism is now) because the commos meant
"business" - they told the Top End of Town what to do. Social Democrats are
despised, and tolerated, as they are content to operate within the
capitalist agenda.
The 40-year sanctions imposed on Cuba by the USA is to ensure communism
fails there - cripple its economy. There! Told you communism was no good!
However, let's hope MM can show his film, and we, the people, judge it.
After all, if the USA preaches Freedom & Democracy abroad (Iraq), it should
practise it at home.

So USAnians can't argue that Cuban medical education/care isn't
comparable to US standards.
http://www.jabfm.org/cgi/content/full/18/4/297

The point Moore was making by taking the Sept. 11th workers to Cuba
for health care was that the US gov't is providing free medical care
to detainees/accused terrorists held in Guantanamo, but not to the
people who lost their health as a result of working at the scene of
the terrorist attack in NY. Moore intended to request care for them
from the same medical people treating the Guantanamo detainees, but
they were not given permission to land at the base. So he ended up
taking the people to the Cuban health care system, which did agree
to treat them for free.

It's a pretty basic question Moore poses: if our gov't is willing to
provide free health care to criminals and accused criminals, why
can't it provide the same care to all citizens. And if not to all
citizens, why not at least to those who've performed extraordinary
and heroic acts on our country's behalf?

Sicko (review)

Calling the Peasants to Revolt

I can’t imagine a more important movie being released this year. I can’t imagine another movie making me feel so ashamed for America as a whole, or doing so with more justification. Damn you, Michael Moore, and bless you, for having the temerity and the guts and the balls to do what hardly anyone else is doing these days: yelling from the rafters that we are supremely fucked up as a nation, hollering about the very viable options we have to fix the mess if only we grew some backbone, and screaming with sincere conviction that it’s long past time to revolt.

Make no mistake: Sicko is an explicit call for revolution, and it is a profound and horrifying one. I’m ready to take up arms -- I’m just not sure what that means at this particular crisis point. Among the many, many shocking and disheartening hard truths laid bare here, the most difficult one to parse is the one that wonders where and how to fire an effective first shot. But Sicko is, nevertheless, deeply satisfying in its own way, as if someone, finally, pointed out the 800-pound gorilla in the room, dared to laugh at the emperor’s nakedness, at long last said, “Fuck this shit.” Not that lots of folks haven’t been saying and doing these things for a long time, but here it is in one wonderfully brazen, wonderfully eloquent package.

The thing is this: Our health-care system in American is sick. Truly, madly, deeply sick, because it is geared toward ensuring obscene profits for the corporations in the health-insurance racket and not toward ensuring that people are hale and hearty. Moore (Bowling for Columbine, Fahrenheit 9/11) starts off by demonstrating that it is indeed a racket, with horrific tales of the crimes of HMOs, of all sorts of people being told they are “not eligible for insurance” because -- get this -- they’re sick. How evil is that? That insurance companies can deny coverage to people merely because those people would cut into the corporations’ profits? (Without ever using the phrase that “conservatives” seem to think justifies any and all corporate perniciousness, Moore points out that the “free hand of the market” is usually a slap in the face to most of us ordinary schmoes.)

The testimony from former HMO employees, who quit their jobs because they were so disgusted by what they had to do to keep people from the health care they needed, is absolutely ruinous to all the filthy CEOs who have allowed their fellow Americans -- their fellow human beings -- to wallow in unwell misery and to die miserably over mere dollars. Is there anyone more despicable? Why, yes, there is: the politicians who enable this demented system. Some of those obscene profits, Moore shows us, go to into the pockets of members of our Congress and Senate; it’s all a matter of public record, but Moore plays it up with his usual satirical flair... and he goes hard on both sides of the political aisle, lashing out particularly at Hillary Clinton, that once-champion of universal, government-run, noncorporate health care; apparently even she can be bought. Moore isn’t afraid to call it what it is: corruption at the most powerful inner sanctums of our national “leadership.” These people do not serve us: they serve their corporate overlords. Why do we stand for this?

But Moore is just beginning: we’ve all dealt with the horror that is our health-care system, and he doesn’t need to waste a lot of time telling us what we already know. So he heads to Canada, to Britain, to France, for Christ’s sake, to show us the alternative: systems in which wellness is a priority, everyone is looked after as needed, and doctors are free to actually care for their patients instead of wondering what services they are limited in providing because of some blood-on-his-hands CEO wants a new yacht. With wit that is as devastating a takedown as any angry rant could be, Moore makes fun of the image of “socialized” medicine that has been sold to us by, yup, those corporations with their obscene profits. And in the far larger context, he shows us how the American character has faltered under our system of “health care”; the inevitable next question he leaves us to ask is, How do we find the energy for a revolution when we’ve come to such a frail and feeble state in both body and soul? That’s the depressing crux of Sicko.

I laughed till I cried, sitting through Sicko, and I don’t mean that as a metaphor -- I was taken down by wracking sobs of shame and pity for we Americans by the end of the film, when Moore takes a handful of 9/11 emergency responders who cannot get the medical help they need after their selfless work in lower Manhattan to Cuba, where they are treated with such kindness by Cuban doctors in the free hospital that it is heartbreaking, and mortifying. How have we Americans let such things come to pass, that the best and bravest and most altruistic among us are treated as disposable garbage? (And how we treat our weakest and most vulnerable is even worse, Moore has no hesitation in showing us, too.) How can we live with ourselves?

And that is Moore’s question. Though he tweaks his own notoriety more than once here, he doesn’t shy from being as aggressive as necessary in asking it: How can we live with ourselves?

COMMENTS:

I'm so happy you gave this flick a great review. I work in pharmaceutical billing on behalf of Assisted Living patients with Alzheimer's and a variety of other ailments and every day I beat my head against a brick wall when it comes to trying to make sense of their varying "private" insurance plans and try to get them the coverage for the medications their doctors prescribe and which these most vulnerable among us trust are supposed to be covered.

The prescription drug insurance industry is a farce in the USA. There is little relationship between drug costs to the consumer, reimbursement to the pharmacy, and the actual cost of manufacture.

I have been looking forward to this flick ever since MM said he was going to make it and I'm thrilled that my favorite online reviewers are giving it such high recommendations. People really don't know what's going on. You think single payer will lead to rationing? Catch a clue America--rationing is already happening. It's just not happening in a rational way.

I watched the movie last night and it's great

what's more interesting about it for me is all that is not about health care, that old english man explaining how if you keep the people depressed they won't protest and they will just accept whatever they get and never ask for more, and how the english would revolt to the very idea of not having what they take for granted, and it's utopic in america

and how clear and obvious is that politicians speak against universal health care or socialize medicine not because they have dissenting political or ideological opinions, but because they are being pay for it, it's just sad that people believe them (and that make people responsable for the situation aswell)

and also interesting is how people react to michael moore, of course is easy to criticise him for lots of reason, but who else is doing anything about it? who else is trying to make the least bit of diference?

if you don't like how he says things produce your own movie to make a world a better place

Look. People do blame all the countries problems on the current administration, but (like this film proves) the problems have been in our government for quite some time now.

Personally, corruption is going to run completely rampant in an age where companies can give money (among other things) to the members of the highest levels of goverment in order to influence their decisions. How is this legal? Why hasn't anybody tried to stop this? This is key, in my opinion.

Recently, Sallie Mae (and other financial aid companies) have come under fire for "paying off" college financial aid counselors, with trips to exotic places and money, all so that they will sell their high interest private loans to students. Now, these companies have lots of lawsuits to deal with as a result of the suffering that they cause to these college students.

Why did I bring this up? Well, if it's not okay for Financial Aid companies to pay off their customers (they pay off members of Congress too, by the way), then why the hell is it okay for ANYONE to pay off members of Congress! These are the people that make our laws! It's a no brainer that things are very fucked up in this country right now.

I just applaud the fact that there are people out there that are trying to stimulate peoples minds and get the message out there like Michael Moore. We need more of this stuff, and it's great that Moore has the reach that he does to be able to release his movies across the Nation. At the very least, it gets people like me and you talking about very important issues.

another thing about michael moore that seems imposible to understand for some people:

a false friend will always tell that you're doing great, that everything's fine and you should keep it up

but a real friend will tell you the things you're doing wrong even if you don't want to hear it, he won't lie to you and he will try to make you change for the better and that't because he CARES

michael moore cares about his country, so goes out of his way to point out what's wrong with it so it can be corrected before it's too late (if it's not too late already)

but I guess that's too complicated and contradictory for some people

I'm not an american but michael moore is the only american I know about that I would call a patriot

William,

You are correct. It is Un-American to say that "if you don't support America, leave it." It totally ignores what makes this country great.

I am not an American so please take these comments in this context. Healthwise, the US is looked at as the most dangerous country in the world to visit as a tourist - not because you are any more likely to get sick - but because the slightest injury could bankrupt you without hefty travel insurance.

So, when the Clinton administration came to power with a mandate to reform healthcare we all thought, "Great! The US is finally going to get its health system back in order." We all stood by in amazement then while spurious arguments about socialization and nationalism weren't countered by rational debate and hard figures available from any other western country. It looked like the administration wanted this initiative to fail.

If Moore spends a lot of time talking about foreign healthcare models it is simply to counter the boiling frog syndrome. ie: How do you know it's hot if you don't know what cold is? Moore would be the last person to nominate himself for sainthood. If he has over dramatized sequences in his films it shows a lack of confidence in his own ability to persuade - not a desire to deceive the public.

Sure, nobody should be claiming they have the perfect health system. What you do see from Moore's foreign examples, however, is a very different balance of power between patients and their healthcare system. Here in Australia we have a mix of both public and private healthcare and health insurance. Of course the insurance companies see the US as their Nirvana and lobby the government to move in that direction while patient lobby groups push heavily for the British model. As long as both groups have equal power the scandals each uncovers in their rival's operations server to simply keep everybody honest rather than bring down the system.

This is the heart of the matter when you put aside the figures and the politics and the social theory: who has the power? Any system, whether it's socialized, privatized or just public will work if all the parties involved have enough power to keep the others holding to the bargain. After all, that's why the American system worked so well for so long.

Hi everyone !

I just saw Sicko and wanted to respond to this message :

"Folks, I don't know how to tell you this, but Moore has zero, and I mean ZERO credibility. He was caught in lie after lie, manipulated families in Columbine for his purposes, and was sued by people he lied about."

and this one too :

"Here, some of stuff taking place in France was obviously staged, such as the government woman doing the laundry for the family. Even if it is true, it loses its effect in the film because you know that Moore and his crew were there telling people what to do before they started filming."

Well, I can only write about the part I know : the one in France : of course, all of the services that are described are true : yes, when you just had a baby, you can have someone to come to your house and help you with the laundry, the baby or whatever (well, not 'whatever' but you know...).
There are some little things not entirely true : you only get 3 days after your wedding in addition of your 5 weeks of paid vacation. And you don't actually get 5 weeks if you've got a part-time job : it depends on how much time you have worked in the past year. 5 weeks of paid vacation is for a 35h/week ; you get more if you work more, less if you work less.

For the rest of it I didn't notice any significant mistake (about the system in France I mean).

And yes we have a lot of taxes but I have to say, when I see what health cost... OMG, I'm glad to pay some taxes (In fact I don't pay so much taxes since I don't earn a lot).

Voilà, just my 2 cents ;)

best for you all ! (and sorry, I don't write in english very well...)

Here's a story:

I have a 28 year old son who can't afford to live on his own due to health care costs. If you think it's difficult getting physical care with substandard or no health insurance, just get involved in the mental health care arena.

He was diagnosed in his early 20's with a schizophrenic-like disorder and requires anti-psychotic meds to keep him moderately functional. Those meds alone cost him $300 a month. Fortunately, the state we live offers a program for 'uninsurables' for which he only pays $250 with a $2000 deductible.

Last year's reaction to his meds landed him in the ICU and he will continue to pay off his share of the costs for that through 2010. No dental coverage - that's out of pocket; no vision coverage - that's out of pocket. Don't even think about therapy which he needs in conjuction with his meds as well as his every-other-monthly visit to his psychiatrist for med management ($75 co-pay).

And he's one of the lucky ones.

Being an American that recently moved to Europe I can tell you why we don't trust socialized medicine. Because we have been brainwashed from the day we were born to believe we have the best government on the planet and that government is incompetent. These two things seem to be contradictory, but most Americans don't think about that. It allows people to be for and against a thing at the same time.

But seriously, look at the syphilitic retard they have running the place now. He told Americans government was bad, then he created the worst government since Pol Pot. Would you trust that sadistic bastard with your health? He can barely read My Pet Goat.
I agree with the French doctor in Sicko, the Americans can not institute a socialized system. They will have to continue to waste trillions of dollars to get substandard care. I guess 37th in the world and the lowest life expectancy among any western country is just fine by them.

Bravo for Another great Michael Moore film. Excellent film, I hope it creates conscience in the US Congress of the need to change the health services in the United States and it's territories. Universal Health Care Services, that's the way to go.

nina19820000 is right - this is all political bullsh*t. Michael Moore is a scumbag lying manipulative rat f**k who will stoop to anything to further his agenda - which can be summed up by "Bash America First".

f**k you Moore - go back to Cuba and s*ck Castro's d*ck like his bitch dog which is all you are. What Moore won't tell you is that the average Cuban will never see medical care as good as what is portrayed in this movie. But this is typical of Moore - create an illusion of truth and get the rest of America haters to buy it simply because they love hating America as much as Moore does.

On the lighter side, I hope people seed the sh*t out of this movie - every copy that gets out there that people don't have to spend good money on deprives fatso of a few cheeseburgers.

Michael Moore is a phony piece of sh*t 9/11 coverup artist f**kface govt shill.

Well of course that's the way you would do it in the usa. Here in Canada we thought it might be nice to fund the system properly, but hey, whatever gets your rocks off.

I always like to say if we can't afford the system we have here we sure can't afford the system you have down there. It's a LOT more expensive per capita and coverage is not even universal.

svyl at 2007-06-13 03:34 CET:
nina19820000 really. so, you have missed the fact that the US is in more debt than most European countries? Not counting horror examples like Italy or Belgium of course. We may pay more taxes than they do in america, but we also earn more. So it evens out quite nicely. around 65% of the total US GDP is debts. Which is more than average for a western country. It's constantly increasing aswell :) America have managed to fall deep into debt without spending a penny on the well being of its citizens.

nina19820000 at 2007-06-13 07:38 CET:
svyl... point taken. But two wrongs don't make a right. Socialised medicine in Europe has caused enormous and increasing debt moreover massive "social tourism" from 3rd world countries.

Why should you and I pay for fresh off the boat "Muhamed" or "Pepes" $300,000 open heart surgery...?

Liberal immigration policies = eroding solidarity among the population = lowers incentives to pay high taxes, thus slowly reducing peoples tax moral to the point of zero.

Stop your wishful thinking and enter reality!

Fingol at 2007-06-13 20:50 CET:
To nina19820000
Do you really think open heart surgery costs $300,000 to perform? You don't see the "earning a buck on every dime"-mentality? Supply-demand is present in capitalist-run healthcare, which makes certain operations very expensive. They want to make money, not save lives. "No money? Rot in the damn gutter for all I care." I haven't seen this movie yet, but seeing as I've studied issues like these for years I don't think it will tell me anything I don't already know. 40-60% tax rates? You obviously don't know what the hell you're talking about. Here in Sweden we've got one of the highest tax rates in the world. Income tax? 25-33%. And we all get to enjoy some of the best healthcare there are. School is free, and we don't pay for going to the university/college either. We actually get paid for going there. Get your facts straight before you start flaming some of the best ideological ideas there are.

Sound and picture is more than adequate but could have been better for a DVD rip, but this does not change the fact that this is a very interesting and emotional movie.

And yet, Michael Moore is hardly ever seen, and takes a back seat to the main arc of the story he is telling.

It is the classic tale of caring for the good of all men vs. that of personal greed.

Also, some of us Americans consider the fact that our president plunged us into a war of choice slightly more important than the paris hilton story, however the American public does not control what is shown on the news. If you saw "Bowling for Columbine" you would know that. One other thought we Americans do not want Canada's health care system, we want France's.

I've really been looking forward to watching this every since Michael Moore was interviewed in Entertainment Weekly. I've seen the good side of Health care (My Dad was in the US Navy for about 20 years and He and my Mom have Military insurance. It's all free , which has been fantastic for them considering their in their mid-sixties.) and I've seen the bad side (A close friend of mine's wife found that she had some type of tumor that was causing pressure on her brain and they had to do several surgeries and install a drain tube and everything. She's still alive 8 years later but, they had to declare bankruptcy even after insurance.) What is needed is a system that has some kind of rules as far as charges, 5 years ago, I had my appendix removed and they charged me $8 an aspirin. I'm all for using taxes for Health care instead of furthering wars we can't win. Let's face it, Iraq was a race and religious based conflict from the start. You are not going to simply remove a violent dictator and replace it with Democracy and solve all it's problems. Democrarcy hasn't been the same since Florida and all the recounts and missing votes, it showed the world that America isn't a Democracy of the people. How can we install it in a country that has never ran on that system when we can't even get it to work right in the US?
The major reason that most tax funded health care will fail is these 2 reasons.
1. Tax money is seen as free money to spend by the Government. The first example that comes to mind was Alaska's "bridges to nowhere" as they were called. We had senators arguing over spending billions of dollars to build bridges to tiny islands instead of sending relief money to New Orleans after the flooding? That's not a rare occurance. If you research, you'll find other states that have plans to build or replace bridges that have been deemed unnecessary just because they have the money setting around. Those funds could have helped alot of people who really needed it.
2. It has become common for people to abuse the Health care system. Patients as well as Doctors do it. The last time I was in a ER, there was a guy waiting because he hadn't had to pee that day. He didn't mind talking about it loudly and made the comment that it was free so why not come in.
I'm not going to pretend like I know alot about foreign Helath Care systems but, I know this much about the US system. It has reached a point where alot of it needs to be rethought.

marshill at 2007-06-15 19:49 CET:
Moore is an idiot. Socialized health care s*ckS. Not one westernized country on earth is happy with their health care, including CANADA. As a canadian permanent resident I can tell you that waiting 8 months for an MRI is NOT good health care. Most canadians can't stand their system. Same with Britons. Why is the Mayo clinic's #1 international customer CANADIANS? Hmmm? WHy are private health care clinics in Canada booming? Maybe because people would rather pay OUT OF POCKET for some decent care than wait in the stupid government line.

Socialized health care systems get their equipment from US technology. Japan does not invent health care equipment. The US does. The latest MRI technology, scanners, Xrays...this is US tech.

Social medicine blows, and blows big. You want to lower health care cost? then stop the stupid democratic laywers from suing people. Stop the John Edward's of the world.

Why does an OBGYN pay 120,000.00 a year in malpractice insurance? Because of rich democrats who keep their big lawyers in their money bags. 120K in malpractice insurance per year means high costs.

Moore is just a stupid fat pig who lifts up dictatorship countries where ppl are oppressed, and have no freedom

what a fat moron, and those who like him are brainwashed idiots.

BTW: canadian health care is NOT FREE...if you have a job, you pay deductions. That is in addition to your 40% tax (for those in BC). Ya, 40%. canada blows

Im just so happy I live in Sweden instead of US or Canada.

And btw, public free health care doesnt make it worse for all, but yes, it makes it worse for the ones that in USA would been highly insured. The poor not insured would however get a great improvement.

Don't listen to what just one person has told you, settle for it and then reject every other views of it without any evidence to back it up with whatsoever, excluding "socialized medicine blows" and the bullsh*t about the 40% income tax rates. That's called being "a narrowminded jackass".

8 months for an MRI. Breathe it. Take it in. Its a fact. Idiot. You want to see a specialist? I hope you're not dying, because u can will wait for months. Big lines....overburdened system...lack of doctors, lack of nurses...too many bums...and then those with jobs PAY.

when i say 40% tax, I MEAN IT...unless you are a jobless hemp-smoking bum who flips patties (like you must be)...you will churn out 40% of your money in tax. Actually its more when u combine it with the 12% sales tax on everything.

im not going to comment on Montreal, I am only commenting on BC. The healthcare there s*cks. People go to private clinics all the time. We knew people that crossed south and went to the Mayo clinic.

'Vancouver, BC ? An Ipsos-Reid poll conducted on behalf of the BC Medical Association (BCMA) and released today shows that British Columbians are concerned about the amount of time it takes to get access to many medical services. In particular, most (91%) are concerned about ?the waiting time for surgery? including two-thirds (66%) who are ?very concerned?."

BC is bad...VERY BAD for waiting. Unless your bleeding, ur gonna sit around a while.

Private clinics are booming.

US healthcare is the best in the world... and will be better when dems quit brownnosing lawyers and they cap the lawsuits.

healthcare at 2007-06-16 09:15 CET:
I feel so sorry for all american who cannot get health care or, get d*cked around by for profit healthcare. For all those who have posted stating that they are from BC (Vancouver) I believe, marshall was one. And the so called perminant resident. Clearly you dont have a F***ing clue what your talking about. We should pass a law to keep people like you out of Canada. I live in Vancouver have a chronic illness and have never been on a waitlist, when I need tests done they are done. Perhaps the person that states they were on a waitlist for months should question how serious there need is. I am sorry, I dont mind waiting a little longer if, my waiting an extra day means that someone will not die. Healthcare here is great as fare as I am concerned. I have never had any issues... and that the truth. You stupid asses who complain about public health are always the first to complain when they get there own way and things get privatized and they end up paying more. Does anyone recall the privatization of Ontario Power/Energy or, whatever it was called? Prices went up... wayup. Stupid asses who think Canada is who bad should get the hell out of this nation... go move to the states. My family as many other has fought many wars etc. for Canadian Values. Go move to the States. I have to insist I feel sorry for all those in the US who cant afford medical care. My heart goes out to you all.... god bless!

sTroider at 2007-06-16 09:16 CET:
Marshill.

when it comes to healthcare, research and development of medicine Sweden is one of the leading countries in the world. And that with "socialist" healthcare.

When it comes to "best country" in the world Norway is number one in the last "check". They are richest when it comes to BNP / capita and has the highest standard of living.

You have to realise that when we are talking USA, just a very little part of the country has it as good as you trying to say.

But if we are talking 10% of the citizens, yes, USA is great. To bad if you are not one of them though.

giggidy2go at 2007-06-16 10:38 CET:
Ok...I'm from BC...just left Sweden and Norway where I was staying for a few months...now in Kiev. The healthcare in BC is great...sure, sometimes you can have a bit of a wait, but normally only if its not too serious. The US healthcare, as mentioned is totally based on how fat your wallet is...nothing more and that simply blows ass. As for Sweden and Norway...have you gone to the dr there marshill? I have...it is good quality health care sure, no different than in Canada or the US, but....getting an appt takes time and no matter what the problem is there is a charge for every visit. period....I think it was 300 sek. And Norway??? Christ...one of the most expensive countries on the planet.

sTroider at 2007-06-16 13:48 CET:
Yes, Norway is expensive, but on the other hand the Norweigans are extemly rich and have very good healthcare/school/kindergarden/eldercare/unameit.

About the charge in Sweden, yes thats true. However there is a "roof" of 1800 Sek if I remember the sum correct. So even if you have to go to doc once a day for a year you never pay more then 1800 / year.

I dont say Sweden and Norway has perfect systems, but imo a better solution then the insurancebased system you find in the states.

Kronocide at 2007-06-16 14:33 CET:
The 300 SEK (~$40) per visit is a flat fee. You pay 300 SEK for a sore throat as well as for brain surgery or cancer treatment. If you can't pay it the social services pay it for you. And yes, there is a maximum per-year cost of 1800 SEK (~$240). Regardless of what is wrong with you or what medication you need, you never pay more than 1800 SEK for treatment and medication. You qualify for this system by being a citizen. As for quality, Sweden is #3 when it comes to life expectancy, the USA is #29.

dm35 at 2007-06-16 14:37 CET:
Some [url=http://www.nchc.org/facts/cost.shtml]figures:[/url]
In 2004, the United States spent 16 percent of its gross domestic product (GDP) on health care. It is projected that the percentage will reach 20 percent in the next decade [super]2.[/super]
Although nearly 47 million Americans are uninsured, the United States spends more on health care than other industrialized nations, and those countries provide health insurance to all their citizens [super]4[/super].
Health care spending accounted for 10.9 percent of the GDP in Switzerland, 10.7 percent in Germany, 9.7 percent in Canada and 9.5 percent in France, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development [super]5[/super].

5. Pear, R.. "U.S. Health Care Spending Reaches All-Time High: 15% of GDP." The New York Times, 9 January 2004, 3.[/sub]

So this system costs more and helps less. It is the leading cause of bankruptcy in the USA. [url=http://geography.about.com/library/weekly/aa042000b.htm]Life expectancy[/url] in the US is less than Canada, Japan and pretty much all of western Europe. The only reason it is popular is because of the perception that government equals more bureaucracy.

to mink7373: When you sign anything trying to pretend that you speak for everyone in a country, it helps if you have any idea what you are talking about. Medicaid doesn't show where socialized medicine fails, it shows where our system to monitor it fails and, Medicaid is done on a case to case basis where you have to meet certain requirements for it to be available. If you search the term "medicaid fraud" you get alot of valuable information. I found this quote on a page from redorbit.com.

"Some experts say fraud eats up $600 million a year, or roughly 10 percent of Medicaid's $6 billion budget. Medicaid director Mike Ditmore puts the loss closer to 3 percent, or about $200 million"

Fraud is fairly prevalent in any Health Care system we put into place because we always build it on the same foundation. If you go to a doctor that bills for services that he didn't provide, wether you have Medicaid, insurance or you pay out of pocket, chances are he is still going to charge you for the services. Not to offend but, alot of the people on medicaid are either younger, older, know very little about everything on a billing statement in some way or just don't care to look because it was free or very cheap anyways. Search the term "medicaid nursing home fraud" and you will find all kinds of information regarding patient abuse and nursing homes being under-staffed. Medicaid pays for these people to have to lay in bed all day, with nobody caring if they are able to get out of bed at all. My wife worked in a nursing home here in Missouri for about a year and finally left to work at a larger one because they were so badly under-staffed that meals were late, the residents had to lay in urine and feces because there wasn't enough people to change people at the same time, some had bed sores and so on. Oddly enough even with resident's family members and staff making reports, state inspection would still give almost a week notice before coming in. The bottom line is this, these people need to be cared for. We need to push for a system that actually checks to see if it is being done right. We here in America like to think we are far from a third world country but, the truth is, we live in a country where the young and elderly die every day from simple diseases or medical problems that have simple cures. Young or single mothers don't get the needed care for their babies and themselves just because they don't meet certain requirements, or have other cheap insurance available. We live in a country where alot of people die every year just because they didn't find a place in a budget. So, mike 7373....you probably need to drop the whole "America is superior because you think it is bit" and realize that we have alot of problems in this country that are not being fixed, and people pointing out what they think is wrong with other countries while ignoring our own problems is a large part of the over-all problem.

marshill: I like the way you included "hatemongering" in the middle of so many hateful insults. It's not only self accusing as it is unproductive to insult. The fact is most Americans never left their country and have absolutely no perspective. It's easy to think your country is the best in everything when that's all you know. (Like a child who thinks his or her parents know everything).
There is no absolute comparison between different systems, and of course the American system has its advantages. However when it comes to treating people and having social peace it's by far worse than most countries in Europe. Just look at crime rates and prison population for example.
Either way, come to Europe and enjoy, most Americans I know here really like it and never imagined it to be so nice. It opens your perspectives and gives some balance to your reasoning and opinions.
Secondly you should not feel you need to support everything in your country to be patriotic. You should always try to make your country better. Isn't it the capitalist way of thinking "Always try harder". Satisfaction is the beginning of decadence and it scares me how satisfied Americans are with their country making them blind and unable to constructive criticism.

mike7373: Of course French are gay, still doesn't support your point... :P But really, stereotypes, although funny are not arguments, Americans are not all gun carrying hillbilly rednecks for example...

Keep trying to make the world a better place and never feel satisfied while at least one person is dying of hunger, cold or lack of medical assistance.

People! DO NOT engage mar*SHILL* and the other trolls. First they pose as as uneducated "vox populi" and when cornered come up with sophisticated statistics (remember: "the only statistics you can trust are those you falsified yourself")..

Be careful. The Pharma/Health mafia pays many many millions to PAID AGENTS (PR, "corporate communications) who "MUDDY THE WATERS" as a default action (see climate change debate)... and then "develop a strategy" (bribe, fake, divert, stall, lie).

One of their best tricks is to found "grassroots organisations" then under false pretenses get impressionable and vulnerable mental-hippies to support their cause ("Government wants to "regulate" YOU. In reality government regulates the powerful, to protect the powerless.). Then they present "the people's will" to their paid right-wing parliamentary agents to make profitable laws and/or stop costly regulation.

To stop people from developing any hope for change will shut them up (sometimes for good).

Do not pay attention to words and phrases, pay attention to your own common sense and your intuitive grasp of the concept. Common Sense is your friend! ("It takes a really good education to miss this..." Noam Chomsky, Power and Terror)

Jeez, insurance is better if more people "pay in".

The burden of helping people is lighter if carried by more shoulders.

Hence a monopoly state insurance is the most efficient. Paid for by general taxation = no need for another class of "money collectors" and lawyers and bankers.

Privatisation favours lawyers and accountants but the biggest power is to have money creation into the hands of PRIVATE BANKERS (G.E. Money!). Today there is an incredible (!) flood of cash. Some of this cash needs to be destroyed so that the remainder KEEPS ITS VALUE. Of course you don't destroy the the money of the super-rich (e.g. wall street stock crash), instead you destroy the money of the public! The fastest way is to build weapons, tanks and aeroplanes at public expense, and then destroy them in a series of bloodbaths in other countries... and "make a killing" in the multitude of unlawful dirty deals associated with coercion.

Everybody in America has Health Care! But many don't have health insurance! Everybody can walk-in to any hospital, and have any surgery they want, whenever they want it... That's health Care! You pay for it whenever you want to, however you want to...

In Canada... everybody has health INSURANCE... but Canada has no Health Care... so while you wait for 3+ years for your brain tumor to kill you... your health insurance didn't help you at all! And you're not allowed to pay for private health insurance to help heal you when you really need it... so...
All Universal Health Care will give you is... Health Insurance, while it destroys the world's greatest Health CARE...

Universal Health Care has NEVER worked in ANY country on EARTH! Not Cuba, Not Sweden (with 80+% tax), not anywhere...
To think you want to lay off 50 Million Americans so they at least can have health insurance without any doctors or health care to take care of them is just plain Stupid...
As is Michael Moore...

80%+ tax?

Im from Sweden and I DONT pay 80% tax. I pay 32% and yes, thats pretty high.

BUT, I never have to worry about not getting healthcare, never have to worry about getting without house/food and everything else I need to survive.

So, tbh, I rather pay my 32% tax and have security.

So, do a regular american pay much less then 32% of his income if you add tax, insurance for unemployment, insurance for healtcare, insurance for kids and so on? I dont think so.

And in Sweden and most other countries you have the choice to go to private healthcare, its no problem. You can even have private healthinsurance if you want to. So the power to choose is yours Mike7373 ( and you should know that if you lived in Sweden for 10 years lol )

With all the money that is actually wasted in this country every year, you don't think there could be some kind of reform to move this money into the Helth System? At the worst, it will make jobs in larger Hospitals, Doctor's offices and medical research . Health insurance is one of the top reasons that Americans declare bankruptcy. And in general, people with less insurance or no insurance, do not get as good of care as people with insurance through a private company. You can't possibly watch the news or know alot of people and still say that Health Care in the US is equal? As far as Michael Moore, yes, this video is one-sided and he admits that. I don't know if i should laugh or cry about your pathetic statement. I sincearly doubt you've set foot outside Redneckville, Texas, in your entire life. I went to my doctor complaining about frequent headaches. I was scheduled to get a CAT scan the week after that at a private clinic, it costed me 100 sek(approx 15 dollars). A friend of mine living in Alabama has blackouts and horrible headaches, he's still waiting for his CAT scan - they cost like 10.000 dollars there and insurance company don't want to pay. One week vs Never. I think it's pretty clear which system has the longest waiting periods. We don't have to deal with insurance companies who refuse to approve procedures or expensive checkups here. if for some reason there would be an unreasonable long waiting period for an operation in Sweden, our system allows us to seek care in a neighbouring country where the waiting period is shorter - you then send a bill for all the expenses to the government and they pay for it. The reason i'm sure you're lying about living in Sweden is that if you actually lived here you would know all this stuff - appearently you don't.
btw it was only sinusitis, cost of medication : 10 dollars :)

To Michael Moore: I just can't believe such a movie got into the hands of the file sharers. You and the studio could've easily prevented it if you wanted to. So I've reached the only logical conclusion: you put this up on the Internet yourselves. And for that, thanks!

I suspect your thinking is that most of the people on here aren't going to go to the theatres anyway, so it's no real lost revenue. If anything, they will watch it and help spread buzz which will get more people into the theatres and paying. As for me, I like the movie so much I'll surely hit it on the big screen and bring some friends.... it's well worth the ten bucks!

ps: I hope you win the Oscar!!!

you are idiots. In canada it is not illegal to go outside and get an operation done if you have been waiting longer than you want. We can do as we please, but will likely have to pay for the entire proceedure.

Americans like you are why the world hates the west. "our guns are bigger we will blow you up" "were the #1 world power, blah, blah, blah,". This way of thought is why you got spanked in Vietnam and are getting murked in Iraq.
i wish the better part of americans (educated and rational ones) would speak up rather than a**holes like you two.

BuddyGooodness at 2007-06-18 22:21 CET:
Just for future reference, when you tell us Americans to stop spending money on wars and spend it on health care you are under the impression that we somehow control our government. That is not how it works, we only get an opportunity to change our government every four years and even then we only get to choose from rich a**hole 1 and rich a**hole 2, both of whom could care less if any of us live or die. They tell us what they want to hear and the morons turn out in droves to vote for them based on the false promises and fear mongering of terrorists, and homosexuals. We have no say in how our tax money is spent, it is robbed from us before we even get it. If we refuse to pay taxes that will get spent in Iraq, we get thrown in jail.

Swedes usually dont pay 32% tax, if they are low income then yes thats what they pay.

But,

Whats important is the Swedes world highest BNP taxation witch is 52%, the Swedes have high taxes on EVERYTHING the US has 30% BNP taxation. So even if you only pay the "kommunal" taxation you still end up paying 52% of your money back to the goverment, on food / gas / rent taxes.

You cant buy REAL health care in Sweden, if you need a new KIDNEY, you wait in line-- a friend of mine waited 6 YEARS, without an option to buy it privatly in Sweden.

You go for a checkup in Sweden, you still have to pay 40-50 dollars. Same as many other American states WITHOUT health insurance.

Anyone whos anyone in Sweden never goes to the public "Vårdcentalen" couse according to all studies that service there is sh*tty, and the people that work there have a sh*tty no service attitude, you go to a private clinic if you want service and advise EVEN in Sweden.

Demonvoid at 2007-06-19 00:10 CET:
Buddy Gooodness: I am an American and I was one of those people. You are right about the election system and taxes. This has stopped being a country where we have a Government for the people, by the people. The last 2 elections we have been able to elect our own dictator by being told we have a choice. Bush does whatever he wants, whenever he wants and never has to explain anything. As I remember, they wanted to impeach Clinton and all he had was some shady land dealings and lied during a sexual harrassment investigation....although I can't say that I'd want Cheney in charge. It's really time that the American people stood up and insist that Tax money be used to better our country. It stands like this, every week the casualty list grows, there still isn't any proof of WMD's or a convincing 9/11 connection and if we ever do pull out, there are so many religious conflicts that we'll send their country into civil war. That is alot of money that could have been invested into Health care, as could alot of tax money wasted on useless projects in our country.
We like to think we live in a Democracy but the only real difference is that instead of taking our money from the start, we are allowed to keep things that we have to pay for to be able to say we own.
I'm as patriotic as anyone. I support all the American soldiers but, not the war (Honestly, how does patriotism tie into supporting something that kills soldiers?). I support America but, not the greed and corruption of the Government. I support Taxes that better our country and work to make it better for the future but, not the ones that go to further a war we can't win and is being fought for reasons that still can't be shown to be true. You are most likely right about change but, it's better to try and change something and fail than to just accept it as the way it is.

You're right, we pay a lot of taxes in Sweden. When it was the worst, it was at 51%. Together with Denmark, swedes are the the most taxed people on earth. However, that is now shrinking. If i remember correctly Denmark has now taken over the lead in that area. Our taxes are outrageous but our salaries are also in general higher. So it evens out. 40-50 dollars is an exaggeration, but with the weak dollar the cost here might sound expensive to americans but for a swede the fee is very low. Usually somewhere around 20-30 dollars depending on where you live. which the government pays if you cannot afford it. and there's a roof on the fees per year aswell. The part about the kidney transplant must seriously be the dumbest part of your commentary, even though the rest was hilariously stupid aswell. Do you think kidneys grow on trees? Waiting periods exist everywhere, there's a shortage of organ donors in all countries. Except in China where they shoot people and take the kidneys to sell to rich americans and europeans. Our doctors just have the bad habit of saving peoples lives instead of letting them die to harvest their organs for richer patients. How mean of them, huh? There's nothing wrong with Vårdcentralen health centre but sure you can go to a private clinic, they're covered by the government subsidies aswell and don't cost more than the government run health centres.

I live in a country where health care, hospitals are free. I value what we have after watching this movie.

An excellent must see movie, even if you are not American.

Zjohn & Syyl

If you guys think sweden has high taxes just couse we got free healthcare your born yesterday. The system in Sweden is so redarded you pay worlds highest taxes, but when you need basic service that "should" be financed fromt the Gov, you still need to pay.

Example

The goverment pays huge amounts of money to keep the public tooth clinics running "Folktandvården", you go there and guess what you pay the same money to fix a teeth you would to any clinic in the US without insurance. You just end up paying twice, once in taxes, second time at the clinics.

For basic checkups, you pay the SAME.

Except if you have a braintumor they will give you an asprin, and say its a headache. If you want to get a XRAY in Sweden, you have to fight the system to get one. In the US they assume the worst, witch i rather do then just say go home get some days of from work and relax.

A friend of mine had a fotball accident, she still is waiting after 2 years to get her foot operation. You think for a second our football "heroes" wait 2 years? When Fredrik Ljungberg gets a food problem, he gets the best surgery in the world after 2 days, PRIVATLY.

Only idiots would see a well researched critique of American policies as Bashing. If you took your head out of that elephants ass some time, you would realize there are better ways of doing things. Only people with crap or no jobs pay that low taxes... hard working people pay 50-60% income tax and EVERYBODY here pays 25% sales tax. The European consumers buying power are much lower than in the US. Except for perhaps the poorest (drunks and immigrants).

A recent study concluded that if Sweden would be a state, it would be the poorest in the union. Lower than Alabama :-) http://www.timbro.se/bokhandel/pdf/75665379.pdf

The tax "rich" people pay in Sweden pays the medical bill, healthcare and social security actions for the ones not so wealthy citizens. So, yes they pay more then a "poor" citizen.

But the strange thing with this is that in Sweden you also get more then healthcare for your tax. You get a social security net that most countries citizens dream about. You can actually never get more then poor in Sweden. And with poor I mean, enough money to pay rent/electicity/food and all the basic needs a human have. And after this you have not MUCH money left, but you got some money to spend on pleasure. If you cant come up with this amount of cash yourself, the state will provide it to you.

I dont say that Sweden is THE best country in the world, I think you always can improve things.

When it comes to economical growth maybe you are right. But how come the U.S dollar are extremly weak and has been for a longer period of time now? Shouldnt the $ be stronger then ever if your growth is so damn good?

And what do you get for your 25% sales tax? Not healthcare, not social security, not much law inforcement since 10000s of ppl dies from crimes every year in USA, bad educations overall (Most amercians dont even know where Sweden or germany is). So what do you get?

Muzlamkillah: Exactly how is it a bad thing to want any kind of Health Care reform, when we live in a country where so many people die every year from simple injuries or illness? Yes, Moore made more money than either one of us will ever see for filming this. Yes, Sicko is very one-sided. You are supposed to see the parts of the system that have failed. Would any of us be here downloading it or talking about it if it was a movie that had the message "The Health Care and Health Insurance System in America is perfect, now go back to watching T.V."? No one person has all the answers but, alot of people see problems in the system. Wether Moore is right or not, it's nice to see someone who has the ability to speak world-wide stand up and say "Yes, there are problems in our country and maybe it's time we worked on them?"
As far as people coming to America, that is easy to explain. America is far more industrialized than most of the countries that these people come from. So, which would you pick? Live in a country with few Economical oppurtunities or move to a country where it is fairly easy to get a job if you want one? Mexico for example, has had a very strong Agricultural community for years. Now they are starting to see advances in their Agricultural Technology that make alot of the manual labor side obsolete. Another reason is the Free Trade Agreement between America and Mexico. If a trade situation is done right than both countries stand to gain but, in a situation where we can export more products to Mexico than we import from them or they are able to get larger or cheaper quantities by importing from the U.S., we destabilize the trade agreement and they lose jobs in their country because of it. By creating jobs in our country, we are in fact, taking jobs away in their country.

By the way, what is with the username? Assuming that just because someone is a Muslim, that they deserve to die when they as a person have done nothing wrong is stupid. Blind hate is irrational as well as pointless.

DURRRR! America is a country, now North America, that is a continent

patrik78 at 2007-06-19 22:36 CET:
The Americas are the lands of the Western hemisphere or New World consisting of the continents of North America[1] and South America with their associated islands and regions. The Americas cover 8.3% of the Earth's total surface area (28.4% of its land area) and contain about 14% of the human population (about 890 million people). The term the Americas is an alternative to the term America, which may refer to either this entire landmass or just the United States of America.

US, USA are as much valid as American, true (Check Wiki). I want to show my point. For example:
I met some US dudes and ask "Hi, where are you from?"
They - We are from America.
Me - Nice, my mother is also from America. (Just being funny)
They ? Really! From where in America?
Me - Argentina
They - Uhh?! Argentina is not in America
Me - Yes, it is.
They - ?? (Still funny because they don?t get it)

How can someone be so brainwashed? What is wrong with the school today? This is just one of thousand examples. Please don't misunderstand my opinion. I know that there are very talent people in USA. But the overall knowledge about the real world outside the USA is very frightening.
When I hear Bush talking about war and military defense is almost as giving a 5-years-child a real gun to play with.

60% taxes? What have you been drinking? That's unheard of, stop trying to save your point with lies. It's not a VERY recent study. It's a few years old. Made by Timbro which is a political think tank for a rightist party that idolizes the US. You can prove anything with statistics. That report conveniently came out when the dollar was at is height and our currency was very weak. Today, it's almost only worth half of what it used to compared to the swedish Krona. To make the exact same study today, would with the current exchange rates, most likely make us the richest state, by far, in the union. To claim we have a lower purchase power than you do is rediculus, we live very well in Sweden. Don't get me started on economic growth, america is financing everything it has with loans and the economy is slowing down. Europe is taking over the US in economic growth this year, according to the OECD. But i bet fox news didn't meantion that. Not very fun to bite the sour apple after having bashed europe for years on air. 65% of the entire US GDP is debts. and it's growing. VERY fast. Sweden, 46%, and shrinking. America is rocketing to the poor house.

LOL, this is a funny thread. There are people bashing and people praising universal healthcare with little content. Debates on what countries? tax percentages are. And to top it off, it has a debate on what to call the United States of America. It has it all.
Well of course I?m going to give my two cents. I?ll start of by saying I?m a Republican, voted for George Bush, and am against universal healthcare. I don?t really care to start a debate about why I voted for him. It had more to do with embryonic stem cell (not all stem cells), universal healthcare, and other things.
Well I haven?t seen this movie yet because I?m currently downloading it right now. Will it change my mind on the matter? Well, I highly doubt it. I?m not a big Michael Moore fan. I have seen most of his films and question why people follow him or get so upset by him. I wouldn?t say that his films are complete lies but they tend to be very skewed and misleading. They are somewhat entertaining. I?m willing to admit that. So, I said I?m against universal healthcare and I don?t care for Michael Moore. So I should be saying stuff like, ?Michael Moore is a stupid fat pig and all form of universal healthcare will lead to the destruction of that country!? right? Well, I?ll admit Moore could lose a few pounds and I do think universal healthcare will hurt the U.S. (aka United States of America), but saying general statements don?t usually win arguments.
So, I should make my arguments about now. But first let me lay down the ground rules. I will be talking about why the U.S. (aka America) getting universal healthcare is a bad idea. I?m not saying that all universal healthcares are bad or it doesn?t work for all countries or how it?s a bad idea. This will be just be about how it wouldn?t work here in the States (aka U.S.A.).
Reason 1: We have Medicare that covers people over 65 or meet special criteria. In 2005, Medicare provided health care coverage for 42.6 million Americans.
Reason 2: We also have Medigap which refers to various private supplemental health insurance plans sold in the United States to help pay for medical expenses not covered (or only partially covered) by Medicare.
Reason 3: We have Medicaid which is a health insurance program that covers individuals and families with low incomes and resources. Among the groups of people served by Medicaid are eligible low-income parents, children, seniors, and people with disabilities. Medicaid is the largest source of funding for medical and health-related services for people with limited income in America (aka United States).
Reason 4: We have State Children?s Health Insurance Program which covers families who earn too much money to qualify for Medicaid, yet cannot afford to buy private insurance. This covered over 6 million children at some point during Federal fiscal year 2005.
Reason 5: Higher paying jobs help pay for medical insurance or give it away as a benefit for working at the company. This gives you good insurance for low/no cost.
This might start to sound like a semi-universal healthcare already but it?s not. These programs focus mainly on people who need help while keeping people who make enough money getting healthcare for themselves.
Reason 6: If universal healthcare were to be in place, most of services (reason 1-4) would be dropped and combined into one. Money would be distributed evenly with everyone including people who could afford to pay insurance.
Reason 7: If universal healthcare were to be in place, more employers would change their benefits plan by removing health insurance for higher pay or some other incentive.
Reason 8: Healthcare would have to be monitored more strictly by the government which could lead to them controlling pricing.
Reason 9: Controlled pricing/regulation of public healthcare could lead to set amount spent on medical expenses per hospital/person. This would lead to lower quality and prevent needed big money operations for patients.
Reason 10: There will be a big tax increase to pay for healthcare and setting up the system.
Of course, I kept free clinics out because they tend only be in big cities. I also kept out medicine groups (like the one Wal*Mart have) because it would make my reason list bigger than ten. I?ll watch the movie and let you know what I think about it.

And marrkracer, you have alot of reasons why your healthcare is good.

However, since you have a zillion different programs that is supposed to help minor groups in the US, wouldnt it be easier to just have one single program that offers EVERYONE free healthcare instead of having 1000s of people employed whos only reason to work is to decline or approve if people meeting the criterias needed for healthcare?

Or is it just the thought of your $ helping someone else that is horrible?

"The Americas are the lands of the Western hemisphere or New World consisting of the continents of North America[1] and South America with their associated islands and regions. The Americas cover 8.3% of the Earth's total surface area (28.4% of its land area) and contain about 14% of the human population (about 890 million people). The term the Americas is an alternative to the term America, which may refer to either this entire landmass or just the United States of America."

Wrong. There is only one America and that is the United States of America. "The Americas" incompasses THREE Americas -- North Central, and South.

When you hear the term "Americans" do you immediately think of Argentinians? Chileans? Brazilians? Hondurans? Mexicans?

I'll answer that for you "No, and hell no!" You think immediately of the inhabitants of the United States.

"The Americas" incorporates two -- COUNT 'EM -- TWO continents: North America and South America. To say you are from America to someone they will IMMEDIATELY think of the United States regardless of your word games and semantics to the contrary.

In this world nothing is certain but death and taxes. -Benjamin Franklin

Well, I just got done watching the movie. I have to admit that this is Michael Moore?s best movie. I?ll even say that I enjoyed watching it. The movie still doesn?t have me sold on universal health care. I see that people assume that I against paying more in taxes. That isn?t the case at all. In fact, I would rather pay a 15% to 20% increase in taxes instead of paying for iffy medical healthcare. To get medical help with no cost and no worries would be worth it. Money is an issue but not in that way.

The problem with America?s healthcare is not so much the insurance but the cost of giving healthcare. For example, the drug that lady got in Cuba for 5 cents; cost her over $100 in America. Another example is the cost of replacing a finger. If we implement an universal healthcare without controlling prices first, then we wouldn?t have enough money even if we had a 50% tax increase.

The reason why I do not want the government to control our healthcare is because it?s our government. I love the U.S. and I understand that our government F***s up if given half a chance. For example, the government regulates energy such as Consumers Power. This is the only source where I can get power for my house. Well after the rolling blackouts in 1997(?), Consumers Power wanted to charge more to cover fixing and updating power lines and power plants. The problem with this is, that they were suppose to fix and update with the money we already give them. Another example is unemployment (at least in Michigan). If you go on unemployment in Michigan, you are supposed to be looking for a job. This means actively putting in resumes and such. Well to prove that you are doing this, you are set a time to call an automated telephone service. All you have to do is punch in a few numbers once a week and live close to what you would have made (70%+) if you didn?t get laid off/ fired. The best and classic example on how the government screws things up is Social Security. Do I need to say more?

Yes, I agree that health care in America does need to be fixed. I just don?t think universal healthcare is the answer for us.

Your point is good and I must admit that you probably are right. Universal HC maybe wont work in the US, due to your "traditions" in the HC area. However something needs to be done, and there we both agree.

marshill at 2007-06-20 23:42 CET:
hey you stupid socialists, take this: Only in the USA.
I had some knee pain, nothing major, still able to walk & run, but painful enough that after 20 mins of running, I have to stop. So I go to my doc, he takes an X-ray. I visit him the next day, he doesnt see anything in the x-ray so forwards me to an orthopedist. 5 days later, Im at the orthopedic (u like that Canada? britain? France? In 5 days I am seeing an orthopedic for occasional knee pain. Breathe it in.)

At the orthopedic on Monday, he comes in and sees me. He looks at the X-ray and tells me that my bones are fine, and that he suspects a small meniscus tear. He recommends an MRI. I say "yes, thats great". He puts me in for an MRI and sends me home. 2 days later the office calls me and says they have my MRI appointment scheduled on June 26...NINE...countem canada...countem britain...countem france...NINE DAYS I am getting my MRI.

No socialist medical system...I REPEAT NO SOCIALIZED SYSTEM ON EARTH can do that. Only in the USA. I love this health care...I absolutely LOVE IT. And before you canadians just assume I am lying, the truth is you don't have a clue. I know you can't relate to someone getting seeing a specialist and getting a full MRI for a very mild, and non-disabling condition, you probably don't believe its possible.

But it is possible. Its called AMERICA

From my point of wiew (I'm from Sweden btw) it's really interresting to see how you just "swallow" all this propaganda/nosence, and think that it really is great.
But it's not very strange that you like it the way it is (the ones that accually do), cause you raised and told that it is a great system. Just the same way as with everything else. Almost all people are conservative when it comes to certain matters, but sometimes change could be a good thing.
After watching this film it's really hard to think that universal healthcare can't be good. Michael Moore even said something that was quoted in a national swedish newspaper, something like this: "Everything that's good with Universal Healthcare comes from Scandinavia."
Another thing... Why is it a bad thing to pay taxes?
Of course you can get an insurance company to pay your hospital visits for treating your heart-desease (for which you'd need a transplant and more really expensive help), but it's most unlikely. OR.. You could instead pay a few bucks a month and save not only your own life but also others...
As they say;
"One for ALL, and ALL for One"

here is the hard, cold fact.

I get my MRI for mild knee pain in 9 days
You show symptoms of MS, and you still don't get an MRI for 6 months...if you're lucky.

I see specialist within days for virtually anything
You would be lucky to see one in a year, unless you were perceived to be critically ill, and even then you would be waiting in a big line for surgery.

People see someone with some extreme opinions like Michael Moore and either feel the need to completely agree or just disregard everything because he's trying to push his own agenda. Fact is, extremists are the ones who get heard by the most people. Why can't people watch something like this, take what they will and leave the rest?

I think it's even more unfortunate that conversation on an important subject like health care degrades to a pi**ing contest over whose country has better health care. Yeah, as Americans we pay less in federal taxes than socialist countries for health care. However, when all is said and done with all of our out of pocket expenses, we pay a lot more than many other countries for our health care. There's a reason so many people order their scripts online from Canada. There's a reason some people only take half of what they're prescribed to make their prescription last longer. Sadly, if Americans (myself included) are financially stable enough to pay all our health care bills or simply don't have any, we don't bother to think of those who are struggling to pay for their blood pressure medication or the family's who have an unforseen medial emergency and are dealing with a collections agency from the hospital for years and years. Compare health care systems all you want, doesn't change the fact that our system is f**ked up and a lot of our citizens are getting left behind.

Do you seriously believe the waiting periods here are that long? It must be so horrible for you to hear now that they're not. We get our MRIs as fast as you do, and we don't have to pawn all our belongings to get one. Why on earth would we be envious of you? What do you have that we don't except for an enormous amount of fat people? Maybe a stuck up attitude. Well the french have that too i guess. Trailer trash - we don't have that- and we're SO jealous. please send some of them so we too can enjoy the american dream. Do you think there are no americans here? Millions of americans live in Europe, the migration go both ways you twat. The muslims in western Europe amount like 2-3% of the total population. Only slightly higher than in the USA. It's a pretty minor group really. Everybody wants to come to Europe too, we just send most of them home again ;p

While other countries build fences to keep their citizens IN, the United States has to build fences to keep people OUT. If the U.S. is such a bad place to live; why then are there so many people willing to risk life and limb to get in here illegally -- and so many willing to immigrate legally as well?

If all of those who are defending their country's socialized health care systems were correct; wouldn't there be a dearth of Americans trying to immigrate there -- and wouldn't there already be a vast number of Americans who already have immigrated there?

The sheer fact that we are getting all of your dissidents, and you are getting none of ours, should indicate whose system is the worst and why so many are fleeing that system.

As for those of you who hate the U.S., it is likely hatred born of jealousy for our wealth, prosperity, geographical wonders, agriculture, and, yes, our political and health systems.

Growth in the number of MRI scanners in both hospitals and free-standing facilities
The number of MRI scanners in free-standing imaging facilities, which are mainly privately funded, increased from 15 in 2001 to 28 in 2005. During that same period, the number of MRI scanners in hospitals, which are mainly publicly funded, went up from 115 to 148. As of January 2005, 16% of MRI scanners were in free-standing imaging facilities.

So in ALL OF CANADA there are 176 MRI machines.

http://www.mmaonline.net/Publications/MNMed2007/February/feature-gordon.cfm

Data from the Minnesota Department of Health, which keeps track of capital expenditures for projects totaling more than $1 million, show that from 1993 to 2006, providers in the state purchased 173 new MRI scanners, 171 CT scanners, and 16 PET scanners.

The entire country of Canada has only three more MRI machines than the entire state of Minnesota which shares its border.

It's illegal in France to register anyone on base on ethnicity or religion - no survey has therefor ever been made. They are expected to be somewhere around 5-9% though and that's by far the largest amount of muslims in any western country so that's the extreme. In the UK they are at 2-3%. Do you think mohammed is an unusual name in USA? Think again. It's tradition in muslim families to name the first born son after their childmolester of a prophet, making it unusually common since us humans don't name all our babies the same. Even so, it's an exaggeration to claim it's the most common name in britain. It probably is the most common name in certain ghetto districts in London and Birmingham, but not in the UK as a whole.

The US is the last...the very last...real capitalist republic on earth. the rest of the world is either socialist (in varying degrees), communist, dictatorial, anarchist (ruled by faction such as nigeria), or theocratic (muslim countries).

Since socialism is so widespread, why try to change the last remaining capitalist republic on earth? At least there are options left in the world. If you want 70% taxes and socialized medicine, immigrate to sweden. if you want to live around flaming muslims and anti-semitism, move to France. if you want to keep the money you earn, pay little in tax, and have the freedom to pursue your own goals in life without government interferrence, move to the US.
oh and dont forget, in the US we get to own guns...i love it.

someone paid, believe me. if it wasn't you, (meaning you are jobless), then others who are working for a living are paying for it in eggregious taxes.

i pay only 22% tax on every dime I make, and 8.5% sales tax for non-food items I purchase (food items = no tax)

and i dont pay for my MRI either. and i dont need a fracture to see a specialist. i see a specialist just cuz i have vague symtpoms.

I'm so sick of Europeans talking up their social programs like they are the end all solution to the world's problems. It must be nice to spend all of your taxes on social programs instead of to protect your country, seeing that all of western europe is under the protection of the United States. America spends more money on defense than all other countries on the planet combined so you don't have to. We don't ask for anything in return. We don't even ask that you like us or our government - half of our people don't like our government either.

You all are allowed to hate us, talk sh*T about us, tell everyone we are the worst people in the world... But Americans are and always will be the first to line up to die for YOUR rights and freedoms. We have done it plenty of times before, and will certainly be called to do it again. When the muslim hords eventually take your "hospitality" for granted and use your liberal policies against you, don't worry.... As usual we will still be there to help.

With so many communities in the UK already living under shariah law by "choice," muslim riots in the streets of France, and with your muslim neighbors in the middle east on the verge of a regional blood bath... It looks like you will need our help sooner rather than later.

The muslim religous fundamentalists aren't coming to your countries for the free health care. They actually believe that god has put them on a long term mission to exterminate the infidel - ie you and your families. The more you open your arms to them, the weaker they see you... And they know from experience that the strong will always defeat the weak.

geohount at 2007-06-22 06:54 CET:

I'm sorry stix213, but what you just said was complete bullsh*T... I was on our side once like you are now, all this propaganda just doesn't make sense anymore, I heard so many people talking about america saving europe so many times, I'm pretty sick of it, do you really know what our ancestors have done for europe? They came to harvest France when everything was over, the Army of the Third Reich got defeated in Russia month ago when we landed in the normandie, everything what our army did was to shoot around a bit, telling everybody that we're awesome and to take all they could find.

Do you have any clue what would have happened when the Japanese would have attacked Pearl Harbor with nuclear bombs like we did in Hiroshima and Nagasaki? There would be no more Hawaii... in fact there would be no east coast anymore because the Japanese would have invaded the US like Hitler invaded France.

All I've ever heard from people around here is that the muslims are so dangerous and that they are going to kill all of us if we don't do anything against it!
Do you really think that one day a muslim got out of bed and thought that today is a nice day to hate americans? People don't get aggressive without a reason! There is not a single word about the fact that we wanted the oil and our leaders (not the goverment) just didn't want to pay for it, we shot muslims long before they attacked us!

And now there are we, consuming meat from mexico and argentinia, just so we can get fatter every day, drinking water out of Canada because our water is so full of toxic waste (because we need our SUVs, the gas for that one is right on it's way but it has to be cheap of course!!!) and writing stupid crap on our fancy computers (made in China, chips out of Japan) about how much the rest of the world owns us for being fat bastards without a single clue what's going on around here!

Yeah dude, we're cool because we have awesome guns!!! Sorry to spoil your dreams buddy but when Russia makes mobile against US we don't stand a single chance because our troops are busy shooting children in Iraq and selling guns to underaged in Africa just that we can stuff cheap crap down our thoats.

I don't want anybody to like muslims nor do I think it is a good idea to let them live next to you, but one thing is for sure; we should start to think, everybody, if we should listen to all that propaganda or if there is a bit more behind all that...

marshill from the article you provided yourself it states "Overall, Muslims account for 3 per cent of the British population, about 1.5 million people". I rest my case :) I stand corrected with the thing about the name then. But again, the reason it's so popular is because they pretty much name all their sons mohammed.

I know alot of people who are what you guys call muslims. They belive in Allah and the prophet Mohammed. Not a single one of thoose I know has ever liked or listened to Jihadmovements or simular fanatics.

Same as most americans are good, nice and perfectly sane, muslims are. The ones killing people for whatever reason are fanatics with more or less no support from the "regular" muslims.

In christianity we also have fanatics, just look at northern Ireland, Jehovas, Chatolic childabusers and so on. There are also alot of terrorists who not are muslims, Oklahoma bomber for example, so judge a whole world religion for something that a very little part of fanatics done is at least imo wrong.

sTroider you're wrong it was "british" muslims who did the bombings. It's also quite ignorant to claim that jihad and terror and genocide tendencies is a minority in islam. they're not. that basically is the only thing islam is about. our politically correct media always tell us that islam is the religion of peace (HAHAHAHAHA) and that it's a very small number of muslims who are terrorists and criminals. Of course that's a load of crap, all of us who have read the koran or have ever met a muslim knows that is just a lie so the poor terrorists don't have to feel targetted by our media when they kill our children. terror and childmolestation is in the core of islam. if most muslims are so nice then how is it that nobody on this planet has ever met a "moderate" muslim? i really urge you to read up on islam. it will shock you what your muslim "friends" believe in and think of you. moderate muslims simply do not exist. it's just like claiming there are moderate hitlerloving nazis. islam is an evil mental illness that ought to be permanently removed from the civilized world.

sTroider at 2007-06-23 20:02 CET:

Thats just bullsh*T tbh. Most muslims are totally ok ppl who dont wanna kill anyone or anything.

I havent read the khoran fully but read some parts, and Im not a islamlover or anything like that, I read it to be able to tell muslims they are f**ked up. But after a study I did in uni were I intervjued around 50 muslims in the area I live and looked in crimestatistic I found that muslims are not any worse then christians or ppl from any other religion.

Islam is 1 of the biggest religions in the world and the majority of muslims are as peaceful as you and me.

sTroider at 2007-06-23 20:06 CET:

And bombs. How many bombs have christians set off in Belfast last 30 years? But I guess that makes all christians killing machines aswell.

svyl at 2007-06-23 20:30 CET:

sTroider you're wrong and a liar. islam is terror in itself and you would know that if you had even the basic knowledge of islam. you clearly don't have any at all. you probably haven't heard of the islamic term taqiyya which basically is an islamic law that tells muslims to lie to the "infidels" to protect islam. You have not read the crime statistics, BRÅ has made very few of those. When immigrants were found to be responsible for so many crimes, they stopped releasing such reports in the name of political correctness. i think they recently made another one, i haven't read it but i'm sure it says something like "no immigrant ever commit crimes" from pressure from our old fascist government. One only need to look at countries where such figures are NOT hidden to realize how many crimes they actually commit. Norway has released such statistics for example, i'm not surprised any of our media "forgot" to report on it considering it was NOT happy reading for the muslimlovers. What about Bombs in Beirut? it was a bloody war ffs. which the muslims, as always, started. Even so you cannot possibly mean that few isolated incidents can compare to the systematic terrorism on a massive scale that come from muslims. no religion produce and encourage so many terrorists as islam. When the rare thing as a non-muslim terrorist attack happens, the outpour of condemnation and grief is felt all through our societies. When a muslim blows up school children, the muslims dance on the streets with joy. They are barbaric non-human scum the lot of them. We should simply deport anyone who is a muslim back to their radioactive desert and stop sending them food aid. they're unproductive povertystricken and insane they cannot produce anything at all except terror, they would starve within a week.

ran3in at 2007-06-23 21:25 CET:

This film is a ride that takes you through so many emotions Disgust, anger, pride (well i'm British) and happiness to name but a few. Although MM is incapable of telling two sides of a story this is one i believe doesn't have two sides most of the rebuttals i have read on the interweb focus on the time that so called socialist medical systems take to see their patients a very true fact but MM did not make this film to say a socialist system is better for everybody but that it would help those who your hospitals simply and very literally (as seen in the film) throw out onto the street with no compassion. This is not the usual one sided I am right argument we get from Moore it is one that fails to have another side i simply cannot see how waiting many weeks in a clean hospital environment and being looked after 24/7 is worse than being dumped in a cab and taken to the nearest clinic because a hospital realizes it can't make a profit from your sickness..........

I quote from the Hippocratic Oath
"Never to do deliberate harm to anyone for anyone else's interest."

All in all this is the best MM film ever made and defiantly worth watching.

ran3in at 2007-06-23 21:41 CET:

Oh and i have to add to the off topic discussion on terror

Firstly the word Jihad had been dead for MANY MANY years until it was res erected by members of the CIA to encourage Muslims to fight communism.

Secondly Christianity has started the same amount of violence if not more than Islam look at the crusades or as previously mentioned the disputes in Northern Ireland.

It is probably true that Immigrants cause alot of crime but if you look at others in the same position i.e. no job, house, education or prospects them i am sure you will find the statistics even out. People who have those things harbor far less need to commit crimes as the things they would be stealing or stealing to appropriate are already within their reach. Since when did immigrants have anything to with terror anyway? May i remind you that many of the London bombers were in fact British citizens born and bred in this country.

I would also like to point out that invading a country is not a war on terror it is just a war no more no less.

I struggle to believe that the American government would consider using military force on the Hague if Mr Bush was indited for war crimes, if that doesn't say something to you about Americas complete lack of respect for the rule of law then I guess you just another brainwashed American.

ran3in blablabla. denying it wont really change reality. jihad a dead word? lol. right. of course it's the evil americans fault. all of it. i don't really care if you call me a racist, the extremely politically correct people think everything is racist. you're not supposed to comment on the vile things written in the koran and when they behead people - we must understand and tolerate their culture etc. it's not true that their crime rates have anything to do with the fact they're useless pigs who only know how to leech welfare. If it was so, then why aren't the westerners who are poor commit so many crimes? if you claim the westerners who are poor commit crimes on the same levels as the immigrants, you're either blind or a liar. christians have not come even close to the atrocities the muslims have done. in india alone they slaughtered approximately 100 million when they invaded. 100 million people! not even hitler managed such numbers. such conflicts as in northern ireland you can count on one hand. 90% of the ongoing wars in the world involve muslims. go figure. you seem to be forgetting that the muslims had invaded the land themselves, it's not like they were innocent victims in the crusades. the muslims have a world record in ethnic cleansing and it's continuing to this day. slavery is still common practice in arabia. they are simply barbaric monkeys and i seriously don't consider their lives to be worth anything. if they want to keep living in their psychotic dream, fine, but they're not welcome here in the nice and sane part of the world. those hyperleftists who seem to love these terrorists so much can seek asylum in saudi arabia and see how lovely they are.

PS. Did I say Americans are stupid? Really!

sTroider at 2007-06-24 01:32 CET:
Sounds like you been assraped by someone with the koran under his arm Svyl.

Muslims arent innocent but they arnt all terrorists as you try to prove :)

The mainproblem is that we (europeans, americans) always tend to stick our noses where we dont belong. It started with the crusades, the colonization in between, and it still going on in form as war against terrorism with Mr Bush in the lead. (And god forbid, it has nothing to do with oil).

So if we just let other ppl mind their own backyard they probably wont hurt us. If we try to tell em what to do and by force make them obey our words they will probably pay back. Still its a VERY small % of the muslims who do actions like this, so you cant really blame everyone of them.

And when you say immigrants, they are all muslims I take it? Most immigrants coming to sweden comes from old Yogoslavia, Turkey and the middleeast. Most of them are Ortodox christians, catolics or protestantic chritians. A very small amount of them are muslims.

svyl at 2007-06-24 19:02 CET:

sTroider i simply know more about islam than you do. sorry if that is annoying. rule number one, if you're gonna try to defend a vile terrorist cult then the least you should do is to be educated enough about it to know what lies work the best. it's hard defending islam with facts, since all facts speak against you. Yes they are all terrorists you dimwit, islam IS terrorism. it's simple logic. what do you call followers of terrorism? I'm so tired of selfhating westerners who feel bad over the fact that we're the most advanced society on the planet. it's not our fault the rest are barbarians. the muslims were the invading forces in the crusades, they were not innocent, i don't care how many muslims got killed they had it coming. as i've already stated, the muslims hold the world record in ethnic cleansing and genocides, i know it must pi** you off since you wish all us evil westerners were responsible for all evil in the world. I really don't care if the iraq was is about oil or not, it's important to take the civilized side in wars against muslims, Sweden should have joined the coalition of the willing in my opinion. It's not a very small number of muslims who are terrorists it's a huge number. and most of the others are supporters of terrorists but too chicken to do anything themselves. Did you drop out of high school? How can you claim most people in the middle east and turkey are mainly christians? former yugoslavia also have buttloads of muslims in bosnia, macedonia and kosovo. yes most immigrants in sweden are not muslims, because most of our immigrants come from our neighbouring countries. Half a million finns alone, like 80.000 norwegians and almost as many danes. many germans and americans too. they're typically very well integrated, since their cultures are pretty much the same as ours anyway. it is the arabs and also to some extent the eastern europeans who are the problem. when was the last time someone was robbed by a gang of ghetto-norwegians? the muslims are the main problem. they should be removed from our country. the majority here do not like them, that's simply a fact. Us swedes were found to have the most negative opinions of muslims in all of the EU. I was totally proud of that :)

randomguy12 at 2007-06-24 19:10 CET:
Enough with the political commentary... let's have some comments on the video/audio quality of the film.

I downloaded it and would say it is better than any cam or TS. It is about DVD screener quality and is not widescreen. Audio is great, not fuzzy.

Amazing quality for such an early release. (it's nto even in cinemas yet)

sTroider at 2007-06-24 19:45 CET:
I didnt claim most of middleeastppl are christians. I claimed most immigrants coming to sweden are.

And give me ONE good reason why we should put our noose into every confict in the world (where we have an economic reason to interfer). Its not like we doing it to preserve human rights or helping anyone. Well, we try to help ourselfs perhaps.

So. Hope you and your racists friend continue to inbreed so you can preserve your pure retarded race.

svyl at 2007-06-25 00:41 CET:
Fine i'll give you one good reason. They're subhuman swines with a severe mental illness(islam). We need to keep them caged in their deserts and stop letting them in to the civilized part of the world. But it's a stupid question considering you and i both know that our country, Sweden, has not been in a war for 200 years. We never did anything to these disgusting savages. We owe these pigs nothing, doesn't matter how much Lars Ohly or Jan Guillou try to tell you otherwise.

ps. hope you didn't expect me to take offense by being called a racist. You people on the ultra-extreme left have used it so much that it doesn't even mean anything anymore. If you don't want to wear a burka or a bloody turban you're insensitive against the poor immigrants feelings and the worst kind of racist known to mankind. boo-hoo. i say f**k the commies and f**k the muslims, both of them are incapable of running a society and have to BEG the people they hate to save them all the time. utterly pathetic. you can yell "xenophobia" and "intolerance" all you like, fact of a matter is that your opinion is in a MINORITY in Sweden. If this doesn't suit you, you're free to move to the heaven on earth; Saudi Arabia. Bon voyage!

randomguy12 you're right im sorry this has gone way out of hand, this film isn't even about those disgusting paedophile-loving muslims. as i've already commented on the quality of the film this will be my final post on this torrent.

Well us here in America can thank these dumb white followers of these dumb white men (Bush) who constantly find a way to f**k over their own citizens but still seem to get elected. America is ran by a bunch of greedy white men period! This is exactly why I plan on moving out of this godforsaken racist fascist country. Oh yea good movie too.

The biggest problem in United States is that you CAN'T get 100% coverage on your medical insurance. Period.

If you have a pre-existing condition, there is not one insurance company that will cover you. Not one.

So if you are born with a bad heart for an example, you totally screwed in the United States.
Come back and brag about your medical insurance when it covers 100%.

all i got to say is f**k Bush, we need a new leader. This looks like a good movie, but Bush and d*ck are 2 f**k ups.

oxner at 2007-06-29 15:47 CET:

I must say that I am surprised by all people expressing their sick views on this forum. I am Swedish, and as someone else pointed out, we have "socialized" medicine. This means that everyone has the right to free healthcare. And we do pay higher taxes than people in the U.S. but we get a lot for our money. One reason for this could be that we don´t sponsor "crook" states like Israel with billions of dollars. Or the fact that we don´t spend half our national budget on weapons, i.e. sponsor Halliburton and similar companies closely linked to the Bush family.

There is nothing LIBERAL about this film, in the american meaning of the word (i.e. communist). This is how it is. Try watching something else than Fox News. . .

yeah, I f**king hate all those, easy manipulated americans. That think they are living the dream, with their burgers and diet coke, watching there doctor phil, the nr 1 problemsolver . FAT F**KS...

I downloaded part 1 and also real player. Both real player and windows media player say that they can't recognize the file extension .rar and so it can't be played. Can anyone help me out and let me know what I'm supposed to do? Thanks...Katie

I spent 24 hours downloading the video from the link at the top of this page, and it's missing file 37 -- so it doesn't work. You can find it at btjunkie.com and other sites, though.

you said, "Convert to MPG." OK, I give up...how are you converting this .ra file to .MPG? I tried videozilla and Divx converters and neither one recognizes or supports .ra files....Got a better idea? I'm open to it. thanks for the great vid!

What is the real solution, if Michael Moore’s government sponsored universal health care is not the answer?

The crux of the "SICKO" documentary is the disconnect between our expectations and the reality of health care. We are expecting compassionate care from another human being, and instead we get a faceless corporation. The person behind the desk or window is an agent of a health care corporation, which is not a human being, whose primary goal is to increase corporate profit.

This is America, and corporate profit is good, the profit motive forming the basis America’s greatness. The basic problem is that a corporation is not a human being. Therein lies the fallacy of replacing a corporation with a government agency, neither of which is a human being, when what we really want is a human being to deliver compassionate health care, and assist in serious health care decisions.
